Love Letters

This Season, DreamScope Theatre by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc, New York, is bringing to you the magic surrounding Old-Fashioned letter writing and takes you through a nostalgic and intimate affair of two friends.

Love Letters traces the lifelong correspondence of the staid, dutiful lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and the lively, spirited and unstable painter Melissa Gardner; the story of their bittersweet relationship gradually unfolds from what is written- and what is left unsaid- in their letters.

DreamScope Theatre looks upon A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters as a way of redefining Theatre in India. With Love Letters, we aim to render the fourth theatrical wall, redundant whilst blending the performers with the audience and the fictionality of theatre with the hard sheen of reality. Evoking the personal, the intimate and the fragile gossamer of the relationships between a staid lawyer and a spirited artist, as they grow up and grow on in their interactions with each other, is predicated on the spatial and elemental arrangement of the play.
