It looks like the city is getting an overdose of theatre. But serious drama enthusiasts could not have asked for anything better. Rahul De Cunha’s I’m Not Baji Rao came to townwith Boman Irani and Sudhir Joshi in the lead roles. Naseeruddin Shah in also here with his popular production Manto- Ismat Haazir Hain, a play based on four stories of Saadat Hasan Manto and Ismat Chugtai, which is currently being staged.
But ever heard of a play in the form of an installation art? This is a new concept that the DreamScope Theatre Group is brining to the city.
The group will stage A.R.Gurney’s Love Letters on October 28, 29, and 30 at Gallery Sumukha, 24/10, BTS Depot Road, by special arrangements with Dramatists Play Service Inc, New York.
The performance will be in the form of an installation art and will combine music, theatre and painting.
Nikhil Goyal, Michelle Peters, Jason Zacc and Naveen Thomas (of Perusia) will perform seven songs, including their own compositions, while there will be a painting exhibition titled Woven Memories by Rajneesh Kaur and curated by Alka Pande, and all this as part of the play.
Love Letters is directed by Nishah Shah and the cast includes Puja Goyal, Prithvi Vishwanath and Sanjay Das. Costumes are by Swetha Williams and stage arrangements are by Manish Goyal.
The play traces the lifelong correspondence between the staid, dutiful lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and the lively, spirited and unstable artist Melissa Gardner and the story of their bittersweet relationship.
DreamScope Theatres is a new production company established by Puja Goyal, with an objective of redefining theatre and encouraging budding artists.
Apart from dabbling in theatre, Puja is a poet and a radio jockey on All-India Radio’s FM Rainbow.
